Marbleizing new wool colors for binding

I have been having fun in the dye kitchen adding some new colors to my crochet binding selection.

From top left to bottom right: Smoke, Harvest, and Yankee Blue. By the time you read this I should have these colors available in my Etsy Shop. CLICK HERE to see them. Now you will have more options for binding your hooked rugs with crochet edges. Of course all of these wools can be used to hook with, or to punch hook with! They are 8 feet long, so are perfect for applications where you don’t want to keep piecing more than absolutely necessary.

Here is a behind the scenes look at my process for packaging. The wool is folded and marked for ripping on the grain.

This is how Harvest looks after it is ripped into a strip. Each piece is variegated, one side is different from the other, so when you crochet with it, different sides will peek out. If you are hooking with it, you can decide which side will show on top. Essentially you have 2 colors. For this wool, one side is more orange-pumpkin, the other more neutralized.

After all the wool is ripped, each strip is neatly folded.

I think that beautiful packaging is a must, so I create interesting labels that are inspiring. I print everything on my Xerox printer, and cut each special size and shape. I am very picky about how everything looks!

One of my favorite things to do is name the colors. I swear in a former lifetime I was either Adam or Eve. So every label gets the color hand printed on it. Then it is stapled to make a beautiful package!

There must be magic! I insist! Because that is what makes it all worthwhile. Don’t you think?

To our joyful addiction: CREATIVITY!

All this is to add to the fun!

With enthusiasm, Karen
