The bag and I

DSCF1024I started a colorful journey with a crochet bag a little while ago and had to share my destination with you. With crafting, sometimes the way is fraught with trials and pitfalls. How well I know that path! And sometimes it all ends with disappointment and a wish to start over and do it all right next time! But today is a fairytale ending for the crocheted bag and me. DSCF1023

I love it! I wasn’t quite sure that I would, because the linen was buckling at several rows, folding back on itself. I wondered if it would ever relax. After completing the bag, and tugging on it, it still looked bumpy. So I gave it a steam ironing. The rest is history.

DSCF1026The colors are so vibrant, yet they still go with my more subdued clothes.

DSCF1041Fairytales do exist in the crafting world. You just have to be in the right place at the right time.

DSCF1046Take a chance on a colorful crafting journey, and see where it leads you. So much more fulfilling than staring for hours at a screen, don’t you know.

I have already begun another bag. I wanted to make a similar one that was stiffer, so I am crocheting single crochet over a core of jute. I am winging the increases for the bottom, haphazardly increasing to make it have a flat base. Since it is single crochet and the increases are on the bottom, I didn’t think that the increases would show so much.

So far the construction is stiff enough to stand on its own. I am not sure how tall I will make it. I am playing it by ear, letting it evolve, and having fun!

  1. Beautiful bags! I may even have to brush up my crocheting skills and give that a try!
Thanks for showing us the finished product, you’re right it does go very nicely with your more subdued clothes–

  2. Love it Karen. Sak bags has some that are crocheted, but have nothing on yours. This looks like the sort of bag you will use all the time and then if you get tired of it being a purse, it becomes a knitting bag or tote for your hooking tools.
