Tools of the trade
I am finishing a new rug design for the class I will be teaching this October in Tipp City, and thinking about how I love every step in completing a hooked rug piece. I particularly enjoy each detail of creating the crochet binding with long strips of wool fabric. Part of what makes it satisfying are the tools that I use.

After I am finished hooking a rug, I steam press it from the back. But first I trim the threads from the looser woven wools. This is important to do, as you don’t want these threads catching on something, and pulling more of the wool out. I carefully lift each strand and trim them close to the hooking on the back.
