This week I said goodbye to one of my hooked rugs, packing it up to go to Texas. A customer who loved it purchased it recently and so I took it out of storage and examined it in detail. I took the opportunity to take a few Continue reading

A blizzard of crafts in the summer
Packaging my rug hooking patterns to get ready for orders is a regular task that I do here in my studio. As I do the mundane work like folding the linen patterns, I like being surrounded by my favorite things and my rug hooking tools. They are reminders of why I created this mail order business. I love fiber arts of all kinds and rug hooking in particular. Before rug hooking — which was a long time ago — I cycled through all kinds of arts and crafts, being inspired to make something for myself or my home or as a gift. Continue reading
Happy January with more on Etsy
With the new year comes re-evaluating my business and deciding what changes I may like to make. One thing I have decided to do is make my Etsy business bigger. I love Etsy as a creative marketplace, and it is so convenient to have a place to sell my patterns, books, and tools in one location. So today I have begun to add more of my catalog items to my Etsy shop. I would like to add everything from my catalog– which is daunting! If there is anything that you are particularly excited to see added to my shop sooner than later, send me a comment. I can’t promise that it will be added immediately, but I will try to put it toward the top of the list.
If you want to track my progress pop over to primitivespirit.etsy.com.
After all that work, I hope to have some time to create something! Here’s a hint from a fellow craftsman on Etsy, and I am going to take it to heart! How about you?
Be creative, Karen

Home again
I am back in town! Shipping boxes and sad piles that only know how to call my name are in the way of getting from one place to the other!
But business is open which includes my ETSY shop. Thanks for being patient this past month while I have been out-of-state. Below is a close-up of the Wooly Santa pattern Continue reading
Travels on my mind
This year Ali Strebel and I will be teaching a rug hooking class called techniques. One of the things that I will be talking about is the fact that quite a few of the rugs that I create are actually punch hooked. Continue reading
Friends to the garden studio
Friends of mine usually come with a craft in hand, because they know me. I am the craft lady. My way of having fun typically includes making something. So my Washington friend Lianne brought her Star Rug Company snow family design to hook when she came to visit. Lianne loved all my lights and tried out my IKEA clip on LED light on her hooking frame. It is really bright. Continue reading
Sharing with you some new patterns for 2015
New Primitive Spirit rug hooking patterns are emerging for 2015 on ETSY!
The first design is on my studio floor. I gave you some sneak peeks of it as I was hooking, and today I am excited to show you it completed!
This design is called “Jane Austen” and it is 29″ X 45″, a primitive floral with a mosaic border. Named after the author and her namesake rose, it is unabashedly romantic. Continue reading

Mark the date on your October calendar
I will be vending in Woodinville, Washington along with other rug hooking folks, so come on out for the day!
This will be a new venue for our rug show this year that we are all excited about. I will be selling Primitive Spirit patterns and goods, as well as my hand dyed wool.
An Olive Rose folk art doll trunk show is another added treat!
All in all, this event is a wonderful way to usher in the Fall season, with pumpkins, good food, raffle goodies, door prizes, happy faces, cozy rugs, hooking stuff, and wool and lots of inspiration for your rug hooking addiction!
