I can truthfully say that I have wool from floor to ceiling in my studio. I love being surrounded by it all! Here is my etsy wool selection after I have just restocked colors.
Did you know that I have close to 75 primitive colors now? One of my favorite jobs is pulling wool for orders, folding it in stacks to be mailed.
I love seeing the color choices that someone else has made, and I enjoy arranging the colors in a lovely combination!
Colorful wool is flying overhead all over the nation, landing in mail boxes. Then I imagine that it is unpacked and perhaps hugged and stacked in a prominent place to inspire.
Some of it may be hungrily cut into strips and hooked into a rug.
It may sound strange, but for a creative person, colorful materials is akin to companionship and love. It is the beauty that keeps us going.

I agree, and color is what keeps me inspired. You may not remember, but at the workshop I attended some years ago you discussed sources of inspiration… we talked about all the everyday ways of finding color and inspiration such as planning what to wear, magazines and inspiring catalogs. So important to me to have lovely wool in my cabinet (which is currently too low) and colorful things around me. Just getting excited over a new color grouping can inspired me to start a new rug with no design in mind yet. Also, loved that you tried to get the dmv to put silver on your license! I just got mine renewed and wish I had tried that…. dulcy

Karen, I’m your customer Rose T. in Des Moines. I was truly thinking of you on Friday when I visited San Francisco for the first time. I went to the deYoung Museum in Golden Gate Park, and I reveled in all of the fantastic wool colors in the Anatolian Kilim exhibit currently on display there. When I saw a particular dusty turquoise juxtaposed with a mellowed salmon pink, I said, “Oh, there are Karen’s colors!!!” I am so looking forward to incorporating the wools I’ve purchased from you recently into a vintage salmon label rug design adaptation that I’m bringing to Sauder Village. Hi Katen. Enjoyed your post!! Yes I am one of those that recently went to the mailbox eagerly waiting for my esty order from you!! What a treat!! I opened the box and the wonderful smell of the wool hits me first. Then I excitingly grap it up and enjoy the color and the soft feel of the wool! I love the aubergene wool for crocheting edges that I got too!

thanks for commenting on the rug, it is a vintage rug from my personal collection. It was the inspiration for my Grandmother’s Best design which incorporates the broken glass design as well as the hit or miss elements. You can see the design in my catalog available on etsy as a free download.
